On Monday The Weather Channel reported (includes video footage), quote:

The Pico do Fogo volcano on the Cape Verde island of Fogo, off West Africa, erupted Sunday and prompted the evacuation of at least one nearby village.

The government said it was the first time the volcano has erupted in 20 years.

The event is still ongoing on the island of Fogo, Cape Verde.

The teaser image from today (28th November) shows the lava advancing, and Earthquake-Report.com noted:

Again impressive eruptive explosions in the main vent. The eruption is intensifying at this moment, but the major part of Portula will probably escape devastation which is great news. The lava flow is now heading towards the hill above Portula. Unfortunately nobody will be able to predict at this time whether the flow will start again in the direction of the village or the other side. One thing is sure, you cannot do anything to deviate this thick layer of AA lava.

Is there a climate connection?

Last month the volcanologist Bill McGuire noted to ClimateState in an interview:

The volcanic response will differ from one volcano to another (of the 800+ that are located in or close to the ocean); dependent on where the volcano is in eruptive cycle; e.g. if magma is available for eruption; if the magma pressures are already close to overcoming confining pressures and the strength of the overlying rock. Volcanoes that are critically poised will be ‘persuaded’ to erupt more easily than those that are not.

In regards to Iceland he added:

Ice cover on Iceland is now confined to the Vatnajokull Ice Cap, beneath which are the Grimsvotn, Eyjafjallajokull and Bardarbunga volcanoes, which have all erupted in the past four years. Modelling suggests that as the ice cap continues to melt, so there will be a measurable increase in volcanic activity.
