Rap News: The Energy Crisis!

RAP NEWS. Like many others who preceded us, our “civilisation” faces an Energy Crisis of megawattic proportions, which threatens to bring an end to our brief joyride.

But our dirty little secret is seldom mentioned in the news, let alone connected to economic instability or to environmental effects on our planet. It falls to Robert Foster to bring this topic back into the fore of our consciousness, where he conducts an incisive analysis of the situation to see what solutions are out there to deal with peak energy.

Join your ever-curious anchor as he invites a panoply of guests – the great, the good, the bizarre, and the downright troll some – along to share their solutions to this crisis. In the end, the shift required might have to be psychological as well as technological. Enjoy the ride, fellow children of the industrial revolution.

The technology exists to conquer the energy crisis. We just need to throw
    money at it.

the answer is simple. just allow price to do what price does. if we are
really running out of fossil fuels than this will be reflected in a rising
price. a rising price of fossil fuels will naturally guide the efforts of
entrepreneurs in the direction of alternative energy sources. this is what
markets do if they are just allowed to be free. unfortunately the
government is very heavily involved in this industry, i.e. the wars that we
all know are about oil. get the government out of the way and let price do
its thing and this problem will evaporate.

While I disagree with the overall message (I’m not that much of a climate
change skeptic, but peak oil is a myth) I found this hilarious.

Re-proposed the heliocentric system, Copernicus cited Aristarchus in an
early (unpublished) manuscript of De Revolutionibus (which still survives)
so he was clearly aware of at least one previous proponent of the
heliocentric thesis. However, in the published version he restricts himself
to noting that in works by Cicero he had found an account of the theories
    of Hicetas.

Thumbs up here! Although i disagree with the criticism concerning asteroid mining. I think mining asteroids is much better than mining the earth, and the dangers are virtually nill. It should be very easy to mine an asteroid safely without it getting on a collision course with the planet. It would also give us some practice on how to divert ones that are on a collision course. Mining on earth usually seems to involve toxic tailing ponds that have been shown time and again to leak into the mainwater rivers and lakes. -from a concerned citizen of northern ontario, canada, near where the “ring of fire” future mining operation is proposed to be.

I worry about this stuff at night. There is an energy crisis, but how do we convince the government to implement clean energy and and turn away from fossil fuels? Our daily lives are so dependent on fossil fuels that I think it will take decades to even start to see change, or maybe I am just be pessimistic? Either way I believe there is an energy crisis and something needs to be done, but how? Also another great broadcast from thejuicemedia,

Solar power is the answer, then. Greater efficiency panels covering all
deserts and perhaps someday the Moon if Tesla had any foresight. Mirrors

I’ll admit that I don’t get the prescriptive element in this. Or is it supposed to? I get the T. Kuhn angle of a ‘paradigm shift’ (or Foucault; I don’t know why Copernicus is used to relay this idea) and the proscriptive elements, but is there some kind of ‘solar energy good’ position posited in this? It is sort of mocked as relevant with Elon’s part; it is used allegorically as sun/heliocentric = enlightenment as a perceptive paradigm shift, but otherwise i get the feeling of a prescriptive tone with no prescriptive content. =/ ???
