CO2 emissions from fossil fuel burning caused the Arctic to warm at least twice as fast as the rest of globe, resulting in the disappearance of Arctic sea ice.

Further, the process weakens the polar vortex, which in turn favors cold air intrusion into lower latitudes, and vise-versa.
