Hi fellow inter-net user, as we elaborated extensively in past discussions YouTube zeroed in on their creators with a fresh new policy, demonetizing channels on grounds that if you share content which has already been uploaded previously by someone else, or when content has only been slightly edited.
This means that content such as from NASA or talks by climate scientists, is now often off-limits to us on YouTube, and sadly we are forced to erase these videos. We had over 900 videos on the channel at the start of 2019, erased 300 so far, when we are done with this process there will be maybe 200 videos left. Otherwise, we won’t be able to get monetized again – the option to run advertisements along videos, was our main income source, it kept us going.
Climate State Adapts
Climate State adapted to this new situation by creating a new place to stream our content this week. We are excited to present to you, Climate State powered by USCREEN, our new main video platform, a Netflix style climate streaming website, check it out!
The new Netflix style streaming platform already contains 200 of what we consider to be among the best climate change videos, and we already begun uploading entire new content. In the future you will find many of the videos we had on YouTube at UScreen!
Example Watch on USCREEN
David Attenborough: Here is How to Save our Future
The new platform content comes without any advertisements, instead is in part subscription based. But we aim to make all videos accessible without subscribing, currently about 20 percent of the videos can be watched without the requirement to login.
This includes many of the videos we feature from Peter Sinclair (Climate Denial Crock of the Week), Earth101, and also newer releases. Because we started the new site this week we are still in the process optimizing the site, and make decisions about accessibility. There are now close to 300 videos available at the USCREEN website.
In the future we will likely upload climate science lectures to the USCREEN website only, unless the talk hasn’t been shared previously at YouTube.
