In this opening lecture of the Environmental Change Institute’s MSc in Environmental Change and Management, Professor Yadvinder Malhi discusses the emerging concept of the Anthropocene.

In his lecture he explores the history of the concept, how it is used in disciplines ranging from the Earth system sciences, geology, ecology, social sciences and in the wider cultural sphere, and how useful it is a way of describing the modern environmental challenge.
